A new Alstonia (Apocynaceae) from the Malay Peninsula and some comments on the genus Naturalis
Kochummen, K.M.; Wong, K.M..
A new species, Alstonia undulifolia Kochummen & Wong, is described from the Malay Peninsula. Two sections of the genus occur in the Malay Peninsula, Alstonia sect. Monuraspermum Mon. and Alstonia sect. Alstonia, the latter being the correct name for what was previously known as sect. Pala (Adr. Juss.) Benth. Various characteristics, including growth architecture, are examined for their usefulness in distinguishing these two sections of the genus. In comparing A. angustiloba Miq. and A. pneumatophora Berger, both of which have not been properly differentiated by characteristics of the reproductive organs, A. pneumatophora var. petiolata Mon. is reduced to synonymy under A. angustiloba. A key to the seven species of Alstonia native to the Malay Peninsula...

Mullerochloa, a new genus of bamboo (Poaceae: Bambusoideae) from North-East Australia and notes on the circumscription of Bambusa Naturalis
Wong, K.M..
A climbing bamboo endemic to North Queensland in Australia, previously named Bambusa moreheadiana, represents a new monotypic endemic genus there, Mullerochloa. Its clambering-scrambling, generally non-twining habit, sympodial rhizomes, inflated proximal ends of culm internodes and culm sheaths with a wrinkled basal zone, are distinctive vegetative characters. Additional important characters of the reproductive system include the iterauctant flowering habit, producing clusters of pseudospikelets, each with 4–9 flowers and a terminal vestigial flower; paleas that conspicuously exceed the lemmas in length; consistently four anthers borne on a filament tube; and a glabrous ovary. A discussion of the circumscription of the Asiatic genus Bambusa, with which a...

Johansson, J.T.; Wong, K.M..
The genus Gentingia (Rubiaceae, Rubioideae) is described to accommodate the species G. subsessilis. It is a small tree or shrub with white, sessile or almost sessile, terminal flowers and glossy blackish, 1- or 2-seeded drupes, and is known only from submontane rain forests in NW. Peninsular Malaysia. It differs from the closely related genera Rennellia, Prismatomeris and Motleyia in the morphology of branches, stipules, inflorescence and calyx.
